Brooklyn Royal Giants Negro League Baseball Hooded Sweatshirt in Royal Blue.
The Brooklyn Royal Giants were a professional all-black baseball team that played in the ‘Negro Leagues’. Formed in 1905 in Brooklyn, New York, the Giants initially played against white semi-pro teams before joining the National Association of Colored Baseball Clubs of the USA and Cuba alongside teams such as the Philadelphia Giants and Cuban X-Giants. Playing home games at Dexter Park in Queens, in 1926 the Giants took on a squad featuring Babe Ruth in New Jersey which they won 3-1; and in 1928 played a combined team of the Bustin' Babes (Ruth's barnstorming squad) and the Larrupin' Lous (Gehrig's barnstorming squad) in Asbury Park, New Jersey. This was the height of the Giants’ tenure, they returned to independent play in 1928 but could not build the roster to match the quality of the team in earlier years and demised considerably until their disbandment in 1942. Notable Giants players include Smokey Joe Williams, Dick “Cannonball” Redding and Frank Wickware.
